Here is the copy of the presentation made at the BDMT Global Innovator Summit 2026 Money – It’s Not What You Think It Is.

Here are additional links that will help to explain the concept of complementary currencies and the ecosystem for deploying them.

Background

To begin with, here is a short document that gets right to the heart of the problems with the current financial ecosystem and how it primarily serves the 1% and not the rest of us, and what alternative the 99% has to alter things to our collective benefit. We elected to use the parable approach in conveying a lesson, resulting in this document: The Parable of Anytown USA https://scf.green/doc/TheParableOfAnytownUSA.pdf

We then greatly expanded on the elements found in that parable document and have posted them on the homepage of this website https://wethepeoplecampaign.net.

In turn, we have followed our own advice and have built a complete alternative financial ecosystem called the Sustainable Communities Framework (SCF) https://uniex.net/scf/, that includes:

You can get a visual tour of all of the elements of the SCF by going to this link: https://uniex.net/guided-tour/

What can be done with this system and how?

There are a large number of problems in society today, (economic, social and environmental) that can all be traced to a lack of money. Once a group of citizens agree to adopt a complementary currency financial ecosystem like ours, the number of things that can be done with it to address those problems are limitless.

Michael Sauvante, chief architect of SCF, (https://michaelsauvante.me/about-me/) has written a free eBook. Money – It’s Not What You Think It Is https://michaelsauvante.me/thebook/ that provides numerous examples of what can be done with the system and how. He has also developed a comprehensive state-by-state implementation plan detailed here https://scf.green/implementation-of-the-scf/.

That implementation plan begins with a State UNA (unincorporated nonprofit association – https://scf.green/a-state-una/) that is governed by all the participating non-profits and local governments in that state, that enroll in our system. They decide how to use the SCF ecosystem in their state and our nonprofit simply provides them the tools to accomplish that, and the guidance on how to use the system. What they do with it is up to them. The name of the state UNA for Ohio is UNIEX OHIO.

The LIFT Act

One final topic that could go a long way to making our concept viable and guarantee its acceptance concerns a small piece of legislation (a rider) I told you about yesterday called the LIFT Act. You can see it described here https://theliftact.com and the specific proposed legislation here https://theliftact.com/the-lift-act/.

As you can see from the 2-minute video on the home page, there are two key elements to the Act. 1) it makes all transactions in the complementary currency issued by a nonprofit for economic development purposes tax exempt and 2) mandates that the Federal Reserve purchase those currencies from banks that wish to sell them to the FED. And even though there is much that can be done today (without that legislation), those two elements are game changing that will take things to the stratosphere.
